Danny MaloneSpeaking about his new project “Balloons” being released on itunes October 31st with his official CD release show in Houston at the Mucky Duck November 6th , Danny Malone explains ….
“I’ve made a new record called “Balloons” I was extremely honored to be invited last May to write and record my new album at a Medieval Castle in the Western Nowhere of Denmark.
The history that lead me to this place was that the previous summer, I was part of a program called the Nordic co-write, songwriter’s camp where 12 musicians from all over the world including the U.S., Iceland, Norway, Denmark and the Faroe Islands came together for three days on intense co-writing at a 16th Century Castle in Denmark.
There were deep time constraints, language barriers, cultural differences to overcome in collaborating AND the songs themselves had to be performed before a live festival audience at the week’s end. The entire experience was documented in a film called “All I Know” that played in several film festivals across the US and overseas. I think each of the 12 musicians would say they came out of that 3 day mysterious and beautiful experiment a better writer and musician and ultimately a better human being.
When I was contemplating making my new record, I couldn’t think of a more perfect environment to record these new songs than this ancient 16th century castle in Denmark. So In exchange for the costs of room and board and studio time, I taught music classes to Danish students attending school there. The castle itself, where I recorded with Matt Smith, my producer, was built by an alchemist and astronomer 500 years ago.
It was designed and constructed to be in perfect alignment with the stars and moon in a way that it connects with whoever is in it to the great everywhere of the universe. It was magic and it somehow saved my life. These 11 songs called “Balloons” are the manifestations of those mysterious and amazingly profound days I spent recording at the castle. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. -Love MaloneVisit Danny's Website
