$60 ($50 Jung Center members) What happens when the benevolent king gets captured by dark forces, abandoning his queen and his daughter? This situation, seemingly so removed from contemporary experience, prompted the unfolding of two different big-budget films released this year, Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror. What do these stories, inspired by Grimm's fairy tale "Little Snow-White," tell us about our culture and the ways we live today? What archetypal dynamics are reflected in the jealous, vain stepmother and the virginal stepdaughter she repeatedly tries to kill?On Friday evening, attend a free screening of Snow White and the Huntsman. In a workshop on Saturday, will explore the psychological depths and contemporary relevance of this timeless story. How does the jealous stepmother get constellated within people and in their relationships? What does powerful vanity do to the soul of a society? How does the redemptive power to restore the spirit emerge on individual and collective levels?Students may find it helpful to view the movie Mirror, Mirror and read the Grimm's tale "Little Snow-White." Kate Burns, LPC, Jungian analyst, has a private therapeutic practice in Houston.
