Challenges in Medical EntrepreneurshipMedical Entrepreneurship Dialogue (MED) lecture series at Platform Houston Lynda Chin, M.D., the Professor and Chair of Genomic Medicine at University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center will speak about the Obstacles and Successes of Medical Entrepreneurship. Dr. Chin is the Scientific Director of the Institute for Applied Cancer Science at M.D. Anderson and was recently elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science for her major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care and public health. Dr. Chin leading researcher in translational genomic medicine and employs an integrated genomic, genetic and biological program framework to identify novel cancer genes and translate these discoveries into productive drug discovery efforts. Her research focuses on the genesis, progression and maintenance of cancer, specifically glioblastoma and melanoma. She has made high-impact scientific discoveries in multiple fields that span transcription, telomere biology, mouse models of human cancer, oncogenomics and personalized cancer medicine. In addition to her work at M.D. Anderson, Dr. Chin is a successful medical entrepreneur. She is the founder of Aveo Pharmaceuticals, a cancer biotechnology company that emphasizes cancer biology and genetics to identify new targets with tumor maintenance roles.
