Look to the MFAH for good books and great conversations! The two MFAH house museums host a discussion series about books on life in America and Europe in the 1700s and 1800s. Meeting alternately at Rienzi and Bayou Bend, this history book club offers free discussions every other month. - The January selection is The Wordy Shipmates, Sarah Vowell’s witty and thoughtful look at America’s Puritan cultural heritage. What exactly did the Puritans believe and preach, and how has that been understood by later generations? How do the nation’s early Puritan influences affect the country today? Reviewers describe Vowell’s work as “rich in historical fact, humorous insight, and social commentary.” Do you agree? Come and share your thoughts! Click here for the reading guide.
