The "discovery" and conquest of the Americas by Christopher Columbus, Hernán Cortés, and later explorers provided great wealth for Spain and other European nations who plundered natural resources including precious metals. But the indigenous peoples had used gold for centuries in their economic, political, and spiritual affairs. On this guided tour, explore galleries housing remarkable gold art objects collected and donated to the MFAH by Houston philanthropist Alfred C. Glassell, Jr., and learn more about the objects' diverse uses by ancient civilizations that predated the arrival of the Europeans. - Admission is free when you purchase lunch from that day's on-site food truck or from the MFAH location of Cafe Express, so make Lunch + Look part of your routine! General admission is always free for MFAH Members.
