On October 26th, 2012, a drunk driver drove through barricades and struck 3 Houston filmmakers during a nighttime shoot on the feature film "Helen Alone". Daniel Regalado received a broken ankle. Michael Darling received a concussion, stitches on his head, and a detached retina. The full extent of his injuries are still not known. Kent Ohler was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann hospital. The impact caused broken vertebrae, leg, foot, teeth, and major contusions on half his body. He is currently getting around in a wheelchair. Because the film was not carrying Worker's Compensation insurance, these three will not be compensated while they are recuperating. Film Cares is about the Houston Film Community helping to take care of their own members. We have partnered with SWAMP in order to make all contributions tax-deductible, and any money raised over our goal will be used to create a fund for future filmmakers in need.
