The Environmental Protection Agency develops U.S. environmental regulatory standards under various statutory authorities. The development of regulations, which often sets the demand for the services of environmental professionals, provides opportunities for individuals and organizations to participate in the process. The seminar will discuss how regulations are developed, from data collection to proposed rules to final rules and litigation, and the extensive involvement of stakeholders. The seminar will include personal experiences and observations from working with EPA and senior government officials, and will highlight the importance of technical contributions in characterizing risk and pollutants, health impacts, and costs in an often politically-charged environment.
