Each year the Southwest Chapter of AMWA hosts the McGovern Banquet, and this year festivities will begin at 6PM with complimentary beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres.  Admission also includes the buffet dinner, which will begin at 7PM and consist of multiple options. Your ticket also will make you eligble for our raffle of autographed copies of the House DVDs. Registration fee for the banquet is $35 for members, $40 for nonmenbers and $30 for students. RSVP by January 14, 2013.  Seating is limited, so please register early. This year AMWA Southwest will be presenting 2013 McGovern Award will be Lawrence Kaplow. Mr. Kaplow is an Emmy-nominated television writer/producer and the winner of the 2006 Writers Guild Award for Outstanding Television Script, Episodic Drama, for the HOUSE episode "Autopsy." He attended the University of Rochester for English and New York University's Graduate Program in Creative Writing, Fiction before he began his television career as an assistant on Clueless and Chicago Hope. Later he wrote for Family Law, Hack, K-Ville, and Body of Proof, in addition to his six seasons with House. Kaplow has lectured at USC, NYU, Duke University, Johns Hopkins, Vancouver Film School, Simon Fraser University, the National Association of Broadcasters and in Kiev, Ukraine, among others, and currently serves as a foundation member of Johns Hopkins’ Berman Center for Bioethics. He also has multiple TV and movie projects in development. House is a medical drama centered around the character Gregory House, M.D., who is a drug-addicted unconventional, misanthropic medical genius who leads a team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. Critically acclaimed for the first half of its run, House was among the top-ten rated shows in the United States from its second through its fourth season. Distributed to 66 countries, House was the most watched television program in the world in 2008. The show received numerous awards, including 5 Primetime Emmy Awards, 2 Golden Globe Awards, 1 Peabody Award, and 9 People's Choice Awards. House ran for eight seasons, and the series finale aired on May 21, 2012.Mr. Kaplow will begin his lecture at approximately 8PM.
