The Archaeological Institute of America | Houston Society and the Consulate of Australia / Texas celebrate Australia Day at the MFAH! The afternoon includes a talk about archaeology, a didgeridoo music performance, and art-making activities to spark curiosity about Australian culture, history, and art.1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Join archaeologist David Lee and didgeridoo player Bob Rudy for Dreamtime: Stories from the Land of the Lightning Brothers in Brown Auditorium Theater. Experience Aboriginal culture through a presentation about colorful paintings in shelters throughout Australia that tell stories from an ancient time when birds and animals passed down songs and stories to humans. Also, hear unique Aboriginal music performed live.2 p.m. to 4 p.m. An Australian adventure awaits! Excavate a re-creation of an Aboriginal site, make a bead necklace, study ancient rock art, and learn more about Aboriginal musical instruments at Ancient Encounters: Australia, an interactive program for the entire family.These programs are free with general museum admission.
