Children's Museum of Houston commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Gardere MLK, Jr. Oratory Competition winner to recite speech Museum open January 21 Brought to you by State Rep. Garnet Coleman (D)  What:Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of a world where we would “not be judged by the color of [our] skin, but by the content of [our] character.”  Take a trip to the Children’s Museum of Houston to honor his acclaimed “I Have a Dream Speech” which rocked the nation during the Civil Rights Movement in 1963 and sparked his everlasting legacy. Special Events:State Rep. Garnet Coleman and Gardere Oratory Speech Winner Recital:  Listen to the uplifting words of Rep. Coleman as he hosts this year’s Gardere Oratorical winner. Caryakid Award:  We’ll pay tribute a Houston leader who has been a model for Dr. King’s beliefs and who has given back to the community. Peace Rally Led by Kid’s Committee and “I Have a Dream Speech” rendition:   Join a peaceful march down Kid’s Hall then hear the speech that changed history.Young Harmonies of Houston:  Listen to moving and inspirational sounds of this choir.On-going Activities:Young Leaders Self-Portrait:  Every good leader needs a good portrait.  Come by the AlexanderArt Academy to draw yours.Dream Wall:  Dr. King had dreams, and we know you do too.  Come to Junktion, write down your dream and share it with us on our Dream Wall.Family Seal:  Design a special symbol which represents the beliefs of you and your family at Junktion.Paper Cranes:  Embrace a different culture and Dr. King’s message of peace through symbolic origami cranes at Junktion.Blood Drive:  Help someone in need by participating in a blood drive. One pint of blood could save three lives. ***Activities, events and times subject to change.  MUSEUM HOURS: Tue. – Sat.: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Sun: Noon – 6 p.m. Second Saturday of every month opens at 9 a.m. for members. General Museum admission: $9 per person and $8 for seniors 65+ and for military personnel.
