As Christians we are called to seriously reflect on the content of our faith, examine our lives and give witness of our faith to others. In a culture that seems to grow in doubt, indifferentism and open hostility towards faith, what should committed Christian testimony about the contents of faith look like today?
One answer to this complex question has been articulated in the writings of the late (d. 2008) Cardinal Avery Dulles. Dulles, drawing from Scripture scholarship, existential philosophy and fundamental theology, advocates certain indices for Christian testimony. His insights, if followed, could not only assist in the task of evangelization but also in how we carry out the closely related tasks of apologetics (defending faith) so that we may "give a defense of the hope that is within you" (1 Peter 3:15), and catechetics (systematic teaching of faith).
