2013 ALUMNAE SERVICE DAY!For Alumnae Service Day we will be creating teaching materials, in the St. Agnes, Strake Family Cafeteria, to assist children with an autism spectrum diagnosis. Children of alumnae are welcome to help, all you need to bring is scissors!WHY: To assist children with various forms of autism The MHMRA of Harris County, ABA – Skills Intervention Program works with children ages three to eight with an autism spectrum diagnosis. An ABA Specialist teaches children detailed academics to decrease behavioral problems, improve daily living skills (toilet training, hand washing, dressing), and communication and language development. This program needs teaching materials. Teaching aids are made from cutting and pasting magazines and other printed material. Some of the teaching aids we will make are:·   Pictures of emotions and actions ·   Pictures of people, places, and things ·   Two pictures of the same thing, to teach matching skills ·   Cut out colors, numbers, letters, and words ·   Art project bagsEveryone will help with cleanup after the project.Alumna Amanda Sitomer ’03, M.S., BCBA of MHMRA of Harris County and some of her staff will be leading the project and giving us an educational overview of the importance of this work. We are grateful that she has brought this project to us.WHO: Alumnae and their children Children are welcome to help if they are old enough to cut and glue. You will be responsible for supervising your own children during the day's activities.WHAT to bring Please bring scissors for yourself and each person with you.
