Touring New York guitarist and songwriter Daryl Shawn performs at Khon's, located at 2808 Milam St. in Houston on Monday, February 18 at 9 p.m. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.
An alumnus of Berklee College of Music who went on to develop his craft during five years in Oaxaca, Mexico, Daryl Shawn combines his taste for unusual chords with the guitar-thumping techniques of flamenco and rhythms culled from African music to create an eclectic mix fueled by a healthy appetite for rocking out (and sometimes, blissing out). He often complements his impressive guitar skills with winsome, colorful rhymes, like a mix of Paul Simon and Bon Iver with a touch of Jack White. He visits Houston as part of his fifteenth solo tour around North America.
Fans of Rodrigo y Gabriela, Tommy Emmanuel and Kaki King will find much of interest in Shawn's music.
