Bodhran ClinicRandy WothkeTuesday, February 19, 20137:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Bodhran is a frame drum played with a short stick (tipper) in one hand. It is a mainstay of Celtic percussion. Featured in Riverdance, Celtic Women and most Celtic bands, the Bodhran is a fun instrument that is easy to learn and goes with every style of music. It uses a two-ended tipper that allows the musician to use one hand to play rhythms that traditionally require two hands or sticks. On the bodhran, the fabled on-handed roll can be achieved. Randy Wothke, the founder and percussionist for The Rogues - Houston's premier Celtic band - will introduce you to this wonderful and versatile instrument. His clinic is designed for beginner and intermediate Bodhran players. Randy has a degree in Music Education/Percussion from the University of Houston, and has taught privately for over 30 years. He founded the Scottish Rogues, now The Rogues, in 1994 and has guided the band through it's 20 years and 9 albums. More information about Randy and The Rogues is available at http://therogues.com
