A critical overview of recent texts that have attempted to shape a new canon of philosophers for the era after poststructuralism (comprising Jean-Luc Marion, François Laruelle, Jean-Luc Nancy, Bernard Stiegler, Catherine Malabou, Alain Badiou et al.). Hughes will discuss Ian James' The New French Philosophy (2012), John Mullarkey's Post-Continental Philosophy (2006), Alexander Galloway's French Philosophy Today (2012), as well as Vinciane Despret and Isabelle Stengers' Les faiseuses d'histoires: Que font les femmes à la pensée? Joseph Hughes teaches in the Department of English at the University of Minnesota. He is the author of Deleuze's Difference & Repetition: A Reader's Guide (Continuum); Deleuze and the Genesis of Representation (Continuum); Philosophy After Deleuze (Bloomsbury). This talk is organized in conjunction with the HRC workshop, "After Globalization and Theory".
