Richmond Hall: The Outside Story
1500 Richmond AveWednesday, March 27, 2013, 7:30 p.m.With Brad Epley, Chief Conservator; and Shelley Smith, Sculpture ConservatorIn 1996, Dominique de Menil invited artist Dan Flavin to create site-specific works of fluorescent light for Richmond Hall, a former grocery store acquired in 1985. It was her final commission. Flavin’s three distinct but related designs include, on the building’s exterior, 8-foot green florescent tubes along the top of its east and west walls. The restoration, scheduled for late January of 2013, provides the opportunity to revisit the history of the Richmond Hall installations within the context of preserving Flavin’s art.
