Houston is a city full of trees – they grow in our backyards and in parks throughout the city. Being able to identify these trees by sight is a practical and beneficial skill. In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn how to quickly study leaves and use field guides to identify 30 tree species native or naturalized to the Houston area. After the first hour of learning the various parts of a leaf and their positional relationships, you will confirm the identity of 18 labeled specimens in the classroom using two novice-friendly field guides. By hour three, you’ll be comfortable enough with your new knowledge to spend time on our trails using your skills to correctly identify 12 additional nonlabeled trees. This is a great activity to celebrate Father’s Day! $30 M / $45NM
