NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) will host its 47th Annual National Convention “Earth and Energy” in Houston. 4000 clay artists, educators and enthusiasts will descend on the Bayou City for a weekend of art, parties and juried exhibitions. The marquee exhibit for the event will be the Archie Bray Foundation Artists in Residence show on Saturday, March 23rd from 6-9pm at 18 Hands Gallery on 19th Street in The Heights.
In conjunction with the show, the stores on 19th Street will host “All Fired Up”. Twenty-two storefronts will host receptions for local clay artists as they exhibit in their stores. Art lovers from all over the city are invited to join convention goers and visit the shows at each store. Participating stores include: Bespoke, Boomtown Coffee, Bliss on 19th, Jubilee, The Lift, Shade Restaurant and more. Stores will have live music and refreshments and all artists will be on hand to visit with patrons. 18 Hands Gallery is locally owned exhibition and retail space for ceramic art. The three female owners realized the absence of spaces in Houston that focus on ceramic art. The gallery hosts monthly exhibitions and retails a number of artists’ decorative, functional and figurative ceramic pieces for sale to the public.
NCECA is committed to fostering global education and appreciation for the ceramic arts. They sponsor and help develop educational, professional and art patron programming across the country. Membership in the organization is available to students, educators, gallery owners, ceramic artists and patrons at different levels. Their annual conference, now in its 47th year, is the largest event they coordinate. For More Information Please Visit: www.nceca.net www.18handsgallery.com
