General Description:Calling all High School Students, College Students and those Seeking a New Career in Stand-Up Comedy. This workshop is for comedians, actors, writers, managers, and promoters in the world of comedy.
Under the master teachings of famed comedian and actor Gary Owen, learn how to go from being just a class clown to performing for thousands. Go from getting chuckles to busting guts. Whether you’re a total beginner or you have a few laughs under your belt, learn how to become a stand-up comic including the fundamentals of joke writing, development and delivery, discovering your audience, where to find material, developing a signature style, gimmicks that work, developing a comedy act, physical comedy, clean v. dirty comedy, etc. Class participants will also learn how to put together a comedy routine.
At the end of the academic portion of the day, hear from industry experts such as managers, lawyers, and club promoters, and veteran national touring comics with TV/Film credits about their experiences and tips about the business. Ask your questions about the business of stand-up comedy, including the dos and donts of the business, how to find work, marketing yourself, setting up tours, contracts, being on the road, merchandising, etc.
This workshop is also a refresher for veterans and a skill sharpner for comics that have been in the business for just a short time!
