However, most Americans are not aware that President Obama has officially declared April “National Financial Literacy Month”.The Houston Midtown Chapter of the Society for Financial Awareness and the Harris County Public Library have partnered during Houston Money week to bring free financial literacy workshops to Houstonians. On April 13th, Christopher Hensley, President of the Houston Midtown Chapter of SOFA, will host two workshops at the Parker Williams branch of the Harris County Public Library, located at 10851 Scarsdale Blvd, Houston, TX 77089. “Getting Fiscally Fit” will take place from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and “College Planning” will take place from 2:00-3:00 p.m. “I'm excited to be partnering with the Harris County Public Library to bring financial literacy workshops to Houstonians during Houston Money Week. “ Getting Fiscally Fit” and “College Planning” are topics that should be important to almost everyone. Our goal at these seminars is to provide information to help prevent people from making costly mistakes. While many Americans are struggling and living paycheck to paycheck, SOFA is diligently working to eliminate financial literacy, one community at a time." said Christopher Hensley, president of the Houston Midtown chapter of the Society for Financial Awareness.Harris County Public Library Literacy Coordinator, Steve Zach commented, “There are so many areas in which finances can affect us. Some of these are very complex and most of us have gaps in understanding some of these issues. Small changes in habits can also make a difference in the long run. Money Week brings a wide variety of experts together in credit, investing, savings, home buying, college planning, and so many other areas and helps focus attention on what a difference awareness of the issues involved can make for us in our own lives."The workshops are free and open to public but please reserve your spot by registering today . In addition, SOFA will be hosting numerous financial education workshops at companies and organizations throughout Houston and the surrounding areas in support of financial literacy month. If you would like SOFA to host a workshop at your company or if you would like more information about this event please visit www.houstonmidtownsofa.org or contact Christopher Hensley, SOFA’s president, at 832-231-9697.With financial literacy month being celebrated nationally during April, SOFA is working to provide speakers and their free educational seminars to every American community.
