BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA HOSTS 77TH ANNUAL SCOUT FAIR
SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 10AM-3PM, RELIANT ARENA
The Best Scout Fair on Earth
(Houston, February 2013). The Boy Scouts of America’s Sam Houston Area Council (www.samhoustonbsa.org) announces the 77th annual Scout Fair: “The Best Scout Fair on Earth” taking place Saturday, April 13 from 10am-3pm at Reliant Arena (http://reliantpark.com/reliant-center). This event is free and open to the public; parking is $10.
“The Best Scout Fair on Earth” is a family fun-filled day to learn more about Scouting, meet Scouts and their leaders, and to enjoy some of the activities Scouting has to offer. Scouts and leaders from 16 counties will unite in one place to share educational activities, games and demonstrate Scouting skills. Attendees can sample the amazing Dutch oven creations and other delicacies in the outdoor cooking area; celebrity judges will be selecting winners from noon-2pm. The Merit Badge Midway will feature over 80 experts representing the huge variety of Scout merit badges, including Asia Society (American Cultures), Bayou Land Conservancy (Forestry); Dinosaurs Rock (Geology); Houston Astros (Sports); Houston Zoo (Mammal Study); Memorial Hermann (Safety); Neighbors Emergency Centers (First Aid); Union Pacific (Railroading) and more. A complete list of the Midway organizations is available upon request. Families can also enjoy live entertainment from Scouting groups and others on the Center Stage.
The Sam Houston Area Council membership numbers 50,000 Scouts from 16 counties around Houston; over 20,000 people are expected to attend Scout Fair 2013. For those interested in joining Scouting, information and applications will be available.
“While Scouting’s goal is to help develop future leaders with strong character to serve their families and community, it is also a lot of fun. Scout Fair is our chance to share the knowledge and the fun with the Greater Houston community,” stated Bill McDonald, Scout Fair General Chairman.
