In support of the Fort Bend Women’s Center, First Colony Mall hosts the PennyWise Donation Drive on Saturday, April 27. Volunteers from the organization will accept donations of new or gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and shoes; jewelry and accessories; furniture; electronics; and housewares at the shopping center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Items that are donated during the PennyWise Donation Drive will be sold at one of the Women’s Center’s PennyWise Resale stores, which support the Center's client programs by offering donated goods to the public at low prices. PennyWise Resale also affords clients and their children an opportunity to find free clothing, furniture and other household items, that are necessities in establishing an independent household.
The PennyWise Resale store recently added an After Five Boutique to its Stafford location at 13945 Murphy Road. After Five features new and gently used formal gowns, wedding dresses and “after five” cocktail dresses, purses, shoes and jewelry for sale. Donations are being solicited to stock the boutique.
“The Fort Bend Women’s Center has become the primary advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the region. The PennyWise Resale Center creates revenue for the organization that not only allows it to continue its work but also offers the public as well as clients an opportunity to purchase donated goods at low prices,” says Diana Elkins, marketing manager for First Colony Mall. “We are pleased to be able to support the nonprofit by hosting quarterly donation drives in the parking lot. I hope that everyone will do a little spring cleaning and donate gently used items on Saturday, April 27.”
There are three PennyWise locations, visit www.fortbendwomenscenter.org for addresses and hours of operation.
The Fort Bend County Women’s Center is a resource for abused women and children who have nowhere else to turn. The organization assists survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children to achieve safety and become self sufficient.
PennyWise Donation Drive volunteers will be in the parking lot just outside of First Colony Mall’s Food Court.
