Founded in Hungary in 1975, Grammy Award-winning Takàcs Quartet performs with a unique blend of drama, warmth and humor, combining four distinct musical personalities to bring fresh insights to the string quartet repertoire.
In 2012, Gramophone announced that the Takàcs was the only string quartet to be inducted into its Hall of Fame, along with such legendary artists as Jascha Heifetz, Leonard Bernstein and Dame Janet Baker. The ensemble also won the 2011 Award for Chamber Music and Song presented by the Royal Philharmonic Society in London.
The Quartet will perform Mozart's String Quartet K458, Jana?ek's String Quartet No. 2 and Dvo?ak's Bass Quintet Op. 77. For the final piece, the musicians will be joined by double bassist and Rice University professor Timothy Pitts, who also served as principal bass for the Houston Symphony for 17 years.
