On Saturday, May 4, runners and walkers will assemble outside JCPenney at Memorial City Mall to take part in the Spring Branch Education Foundation’s 21st annual Running for the Arts event. Proceeds from the 5K Run/Walk and related activities will support the Foundation’s “ARTS Partners” program, which provides cultural arts field trips for kids in grades 1–9. The SBISD’s Health Fitness Association will also receive funding to award scholarships to students and teachers.
Registration by Friday, May 3, is $25 per student age 18 or younger and $30 per adult. More registration details are available at all SBISD schools and at www.springbranchisd.com/sbef. Race packets can be picked up at Memorial City Mall in the Food Court area on Wednesday, May 1, from 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; Thursday, May 2, from 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; and on Friday, May 3, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. There will be no packet pick up or late registration on Saturday.
Those who want to support the event without running or walking can register for the Saturday Sleep-In instead; the fee is $75 by April 30 or $80 at packet pick up and includes four t-shirts. This year’s event t-shirt and poster design was created by Alexis Hyde, a seventh grader at Spring Forest Middle School.

6:15–7:45 a.m.: Timing chip distribution
8 a.m.: 5K Run/Walk sanctioned by USA Track & Field. Begins at the south entrance of JCPenney and ends near Cinemark on the south side of
9 a.m.: The KidsK (1K) non-competitive run for participants in eighth grade or younger.
9:15 a.m.: Kids games and activities including the Hula Hoop Bash, Jump Rope Blast and other non-competitive activities for eighth grade and younger,
9 a.m. - 2 p.m.: Silent auction of art created by students from every SBISD school.
Auction located near the Guest Services Center in the center of the mall.
9:30 a.m.: Award ceremony and after party outside of the Food Court entrance.
Male and female overall event winners will each receive a $300 Memorial City Mall gift card. Overall male and female master winners (over age 40) will each receive a $200 mall gift card. First, second and third place winners in each age group of the run/walk will earn a medallion, and all runners and walkers present at celebration will be eligible to win door prizes. All KidsK participants will receive a ribbon. The SBISD school that has the highest percentage of participants based on school enrollment will receive $500 Young Audiences of Houston gift certiﬁcate and $500 Academy gift certiﬁcate for their health ﬁtness department. All other schools that have at least 10 registrants will be entered into a drawing. There will be two winning schools from this drawing, one for a $500 Academy gift certiﬁcate and one for $500 Young Audience gift certiﬁcate Registration by Friday, May 3, is $25 per student age 18 or younger and $30 per adult.
