Obsidian Art Space launches “Fade To Black”, a ground-breaking 10 minute play festival celebrating the original works of African American playwrights. This exciting event was developed as a creative collaborative between Denise O'Neal of WMGE, LLC and Leighza Walker of LeighzaLand Productions. This will be a historical "First of Its Kind" event for the City of Houston's theater community.
In March 2013, a nationwide search was conducted to find 10 finalists who would be selected by a panel of esteemed judges for the production's world premiere. The event is set for production during the city's Juneteenth holiday, June 13-15, 2013 at Obsidian Art Space, 3522 White Oak, in Houston, TX. Performance begins nightly at 8 pm. The theme and subject matter of the plays submitted were opened to the playwright's imagination. Soon African American playwrights from all over the U.S. responded by submitting impressive works for our judges to review. A grand prize winner will be chosen by the ballot results of attending audience members and awarded $100.
Local Houston directors and actors are encouraged to participate. Roles are open for both Black and White artists. Organizers are excited to pioneer the first African American play festival ever produced in Houston and encourage all theater enthusiast to support and enjoy this historical event.
