Former Byzantine Fresco Chapel building, 4011 YuponThis year's symposium brings together important scholars who focus on the intersections of twentieth-century postwar art, music, and sound in the United States and Europe. Acknowledging Dominique and John de Menil's interest in supporting and commisioning avant-garde music, the symposium will also integrate two concerts of experimental music from the 1960s to the present.Symposium moderator Melissa Warak is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin and the 2012-2013 Vivian L. Smith Foundation Fellow at the Menil Collection. She is writing a dissertation on the connections between avant-garde music and various other media in the 1950s and 1960s.Please note: this program takes place in the former Byzantine Fresco Chapel building, 4011 Yupon Street at Branard.
