The New York Times MagazineGeorge W. Bush was one of the most polarizing presidents of our time, jettisoning decades of foreign policy pragmatism to redefine America’s mission as a crusade to bring freedom to the world. His partnership with Dick Cheney was one of the most fascinating American partnerships, an untested president and his seasoned vice president confronted by one crisis after another as they struggled to protect the country, remake the world, and define their own relationship along the way.Peter Baker will discuss the two profoundly significant and conflicted terms of the Bush-Cheney Administration marked by 9/11, Iraq, Katrina, jihad, nuclear proliferation, genocide, and economic collapse.Peter Baker is the senior White House correspondent for The New York Times and is a regular panelist on PBS’s “Washington Week.” Prior to joining The Times, Baker was a reporter for 20 years at The Washington Post, where he also covered the White House during the presidencies of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. In between stints at the White House, Baker and his wife, Susan Glasser, spent four years as Moscow Bureau Chiefs.
