On Saturday mornings in September, Williams-Sonoma at First Colony Mall invites cooks to come and sharpen their kitchen skills at complimentary Technique Classes. Here’s the line-up of classes for September:
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 AT 11 A.M. – CAST-IRON COOKING. Fall is just around the corner, so it’s a great time to perfect cast-iron cooking skills. Designed to retain heat, cast-iron cookware is ideal for preparing slow-cooked one-pot meals. The class will offer delicious recipes and ideas on how-to properly care for this specialty cookware. No charge to attend.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 FROM 6 TO 8 P.M. – SEPTEMBER COOKBOOK CLUB. This month’s Cookbook Club features Collards & Carbonara by Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman. The book is a discovery of a whole new way to enjoy good food when you mix southern ingredients with Italian flavors. In the book, chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman share their unique culinary point of view, translating the most popular recipes from their two Memphis restaurants, Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen and Hog & Hominy into dishes to make in a kitchen at home. Menu includes Boiled Peanuts, Romaine Salad with Pecorino Vinaigrette and Chicken Skin, Lil’ Red Ed Pizza and Ricottta with Satsuma Marmalade. Attendees receive a copy of the cookbook and are served a meal. Cost is $75 per person. Reservations required. Call (281) 313-1180.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 AT 11 A.M. – GET READY, GET STEADY – CHOP! This class will feature how to sharpen knife skills and learn to slice, dice and chop like a pro. Also, the Williams-Sonoma representative will demonstrate how to sharpen knives at home and will also offer complimentary knife sharpening during the class. [Limit one knife per customer; $5 per knife for additional knives.] No charge to attend.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 AT 11 A.M. – PRESSURE COOKING. Pressure cookers reduce cooking time by up to 70 percent and offer a great way to prepare fall’s bounty of vegetables and fruits. Class will teach how to use stovetop cookers as well as electric ones and take the “pressure” off kitchen time. No charge to attend.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 AT 11 A.M. – VITAMIX A-Z. With the help of a Vitamix blender, cooks can prepare healthy and delicious meals from breakfast through dinner. The class demonstrates the myriad of kitchen tasks this powerful machine can perform at the touch of a button, such as mincing vegetables and puréeing hot soup to whipping up smoothies and frozen desserts. No charge to attend.
Participants enjoy 10% savings on select same-day store purchases during events. For reservations, please call (281) 313-1180 or stop by Williams-Sonoma, located outside in The Courtyard. Pre-payment is required to reserve class spaces, which are available on a first come, first serve basis.
