On the third Thursday of each month, Rienzi highlights a great work of art in the Rienzi Collection. Gallery Talks are given by museum curators, conservators, educators, and librarians. In January 1951, Carroll Sterling and Capt. Harris Masterson III were married in Houston, their hometown. Five months later, Harris Masterson was recalled to active duty during the Korean War and was sent to Fort Riley, Kansas. Carroll Masterson soon followed. While there, the Mastersons began to think about building a new house in Houston and engaged John F. Staub, the region’s premier residential architect, to design it. Katherine Howe, director of Rienzi, invites you to learn how one respected architect and his two interesting clients faced the “interesting challenge” of building their combination “modern and Palladian” home. The exhibition Rienzi Begins: Architect John F. Staub and the Mastersons is open for viewing before and after the Gallery Talk.Admission is free. Reservations are encouraged.
