Winter Street and Spring Street Studios present their Bi-Annual Art Opening on Saturday, October 5th from 5:00-10:00pm. 150 artists will show new work in their studios and welcome the public to shop and become collectors. The opening is free to the public and guests will be treated to complimentary valet, light bites and beverages. Pedi-cab shuttles between both buildings will also be available.
A variety of art works will be showcased—paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, mosaic, photography, mixed media, and jewelry. Two sculpture installations will also be on display during the event. Winter Street artist Monica Vidal will show her huge tent-inspired communal space “Falling Hive”. Spring Street Studios’ Microscope 1824 experimental space will show “Tralfamadorian Exhibit” artist Ian Anderson’s three-dimensional painted sculpture based on Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five.
Both Winter and Spring Street Studios are located in industrial buildings repurposed to serve Houston’s professional art community. Together, they house the largest collection of artists in Texas and anchor the Washington Avenue Cultural District. While often used to host major art related events, such as Fotofest, Artopia, Modern Arts Market, Art on the Avenue, WHAM and 2nd Saturday Open Studios, these buildings are used to focus on the fantastic local art that is created within their own walls.
