Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) presents a CAMH Lecture, Performance, and Discussion: Cheryl Donegan, Saturday, November 23, at 2pm.Cheryl Donegan is one of the leading voices in contemporary art whose work frequently moves between the worlds of video and painting. She is especially well known for a series of video works from the early '90s, including Head (1993) and Kiss My Royal Irish Ass (1993) that were blistering attacks on the dominant paradigms of the female body in art.Donegan will present examples of her videos and paintings and perform her work Blood Sugar (2013).Following, CAMH Director Bill Arning will lead a discussion with Donegan.Donegan is a featured artist in Outside the Lines: Unlikely Iterations of the Abstract, curated by Arning.ABOUT THE ARTISTCheryl Donegan has a B.F.A. in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and an M.F.A. from Hunter College. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions such as NYC 1993: Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star at the New Museum. Her work has been exhibited in major institutions around the country such as MoMA, MoMA PS1, Guggenheim Museum, White Columns, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, as well as around the globe in solo exhibitions in Nice, Paris, Berlin, and Milan. Donegan was the winner of the Grand Prix, 7th Biennale de l’Image en Mouvement, Centre St. Gervais. She lives in New York.
