This season Da Camera explores Late Style, works from late in a composer's career. This concert features String Quartet No. 13 in B-flat Minor, Op. 138; String Quartet No. 14 in F-sharp, Op. 142 and String Quartet No. 15 in E-flat Minor, Op. 144 A highpoint of Da Camera’s exploration of late style comes in this program that brings together musical and visual art masterpieces from the 1970’s. Mark Rothko’s monumental final paintings form an evocative setting for Dmitri Shostakovich’s final quartets. Both artists, in their late style, turned to a dark palette and produced profound works -- deep in meaning and intimate in content. “This was one of the best chamber music concerts I can remember, riveting from start to finish and already ranked as one of my concerts of the year. Here, in every note, was revelation and revolution, pure and simple.” – The Observer
