Dan has been a fixture in the Houston radio scene for decades and grew up listening to all kinds of music:

Who were some of the first artists to grab your attention?

Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, Tennessee Ernie Ford. I remember Ernie's big weekly variety show on TV. Man, that guy could do anything!

What is it about country music that you appreciate most?

Oh, without a doubt, the lyrics. Every song tells a story, and tells it in such a clever way. Sit down and listen to Jerry Reed's work, or go through the Don Williams tunes that were written by Bob MacDill. Tammy Wynette could rip your heart out in less than three minutes!

Among the artists you've met and interviewed, who were your favorites?

I can't answer that. Country music artists and song writers are such down-to-earth, genuine people. I don't think there's a bad one in the bunch. Meeting and talking with Eddie Rabbitt was a real treat. Ray Stevens is a genius and a great guy. Reba McEntire is nothing short of amazing. With all her fame and success, she's still just one of us. I could go on.

What was your favorite concert experience?

Again, too many to count. Barbara Mandrell did a show a number of years ago at the old Coliseum downtown with the Statler Brothers. At one point during the show, she got up and ran around the stage and played a few bars on every single instrument in the band. It's hard to beat that. But, the biggest concert I ever had the pleasure of being a part of was the George Strait Music Festival at Rice Stadium several years ago. THAT was a show, and the lineup of stars was awesome! It was an all day affair and I just recovered from it last year!

You've been with Country Legends for a couple of years, now. How's the audience?

They're like family....only nicer.
