Apple founder Steve Jobs dies at age 56

By Marc Keinath

CUPERTINO, California – Former Apple Inc. founder and CEO Steve Jobs has died after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer at age 56.

Jobs was known for his innovative designs and private personal life. He is credited for being one of the major players that led to the whole idea of home computing when the Apple II was released.

Though he was pushed out of Apple in the 80’s, Jobs rebounded by acquiring Pixar Studios and turning it into the colossus of digital film companies.

After resuming his post as head of Apple, the company released such iconic devices as the iMac, iPod, and iPhone.

Steve jobs resigned just over a month ago as his condition worsened, writing in his resignation letter “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come."
