Since 1968, the Tony Award-winning Alley Theatre has been entertaining the people of Houston with acclaimed musicals and plays. Located on Texas Avenue downtown, the Alley Theatre is easily recognizable by its concrete, fortress-like appearance. Despite its location so far away from Broadway, the theater has been acclaimed for its productions and its strong ties with international theater have allowed the theater to schedule Broadway caliber productions.

The Alley theatre company was formed in 1947, and previously resided in locations like a small dance studio and an abandoned fan factory. After receiving a charitable grant and doing some rigorous fundraising of their own, the company moved in to their brand new theater in 1968. Since that time, the Alley Theatre's production schedule has featured a slew of notable performances, including the debuts of Jekyll & Hyde and The Carpetbagger's Children.
